What's your Label?

I was recently at an event where the guy who was speaking quoted a few things that had been said about youth in the past. Here is what he said . . .

‘The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love gossip ... Children are now tyrants ... They contradict their parents ... and tyrannize their teachers’

‘I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on the youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words ... they are exceedingly disrespectful and impatient’ (Socrates)

Are You Really There?

So, you’re a month into the new school year, new classes, possibly new mates, new teachers, and new you ...right? We all have the things we like and don't like, things we are into, mates we like to hang out with and others we try and stay away from, for whatever reasons.
I was sitting on the tube on the way home not too long ago, minding my own business when this thought about being a wholehearted person popped into my mind and with it this Jim Elliot quote ‘Wherever you are be all there’

Imagine . . .

Imagine a generation of young people rising up and becoming all that they are created to be.
Young people who stand up and make a difference in their day-to-day world,
changing their schools, impacting their communities, changing lives.

Imagine a generation of young people singing a new tune…
Its language is love.

Rejection replaced by Acceptance
No Way Out replaced by Hope
Blindness replaced by Faith
Brokenness replaced by Restoration
Hate replaced by Love . . .

DECISION. ACTION. DIFFERENCE.

I’m just gonna get straight to the point here:

Love is an action. Love is a decision.

Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Love is not a feeling; that’s infatuation or fondness. Some films tell us that “luv” is worth living and dieing for. But is it really? Can something caused by a little bit of charm or some aligned interests really be what this life is all about? Or could it be about living for something bigger than ourselves:

Others.

Vive la Révolution

Looking back throughout the ages, our world has seen many revolutions. Everyday people like you and I rising up for what they believe is right, standing together to make a difference, changing history.

The French Revolution, the American Revolution, The Russian Revolution and the Cuban Revolution just to name a few. Why do people revolt? What causes people to get to a point where they feel the need to act in such a dramatic way.

No Time Like - Now!

I've been thinking about 2010 a lot recently and the fact that we are coming to the end of January already. Another 8 days to go and in comes February. New Year’s Resolutions seem long gone, and if you’re anything like me . . . Goal: Get more organized. 23 days into the new year and how am I doing...? Results: Already broken - several times!
The New Year comes in and we are so excited and hopeful that this will be better than the last. I was reading through the most common New Year’s Resolutions that young people make and here is what I came across. . .

Fancy a Drink? by Jessica-Jane Williamson, 17

‘Rough day?’, ‘Yeah, just a bit’, ‘fancy a drink then?’, ‘Go for it. Give me anything strong’- These are the words you may expect to hear from a city businessman after a heavy day’s negotiations, or perhaps the discussion between a stockbroker and a barman just after a fall in the market. However, these are not the words you expect to hear from a 17 year old chatting to a friend on a Thursday night. Teenagers have always been a mystery to society, but only now are they really starting to draw concern.

Letting go . . . (Mandy Gill)

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when there is the possibility that you will never see that person again but people move, things change and as they say, life goes on. It's harder to say goodbye to some people more than others, all depending on how much they've impacted your life...

I had to say bye to someone this week. It wasn't easy and I've shed many tears (on the London Underground of all places!!) The worst thing is I didn't realise how influential this person had been to my life until it came to the moment when I had to say good-bye.

Love to Smile! :D

I love to smile! Ok ok, I know I'm not smiling in my profile pic but really I love to smile. The video above makes me smile and laugh!

I work in a big building and a few of the people I work with are are a bit grumpy. I always try to say hi and smile at people everyday.

I remember one guy whom I would regularly pass the corridor. I would smile and say hi but he would never respond! He always seemed grumpy. Me being me, I refused to give up.
So for 3 months, every time I saw this guy, I would say hi and smile but he was always grumpy.

Obama says persevere

Today I've been surfing the net, trying to find some answers to the questions I have had in my head lately. Questions of success, money and how they are related. Hopefully I will post a blog on my conclusions at some point, but for now I will leave ya'll with this quote I stumbled upon that will certainly make me question some tings. Its from everybody's favorite leader of the free world: American president Barack Obama.

Loneliness is NOT cool… :0(

Hey peeps!
I hope you’re good.

I’ve been thinking about lonely peeps this week so I thought it would be a good subject to blog about because I believe we can do something about loneliness in our city……

Here goes….

Do we ever stop to think about the people around us?
The people we see in our everyday world that might be lonely and in need of a friend.

It’s easy for us to go through life only concerned about ourselves and our own needs and wants.

TWILIGHT - If you are not watching it, you are reading it . . .

The movie, the book, if you are not reading it, your watching it with your mates. What is it about this story that pulls the reader and audiences in?
Twilight sees Bella Swan falling in love with Edward, who happens to be a vampire. A story of two people from different worlds, drawn together by their love for one another, willing to risk it all for the sake of one thing . . . Love.

Fear/Love (The making of....)

The I Care revolution was birthed in High Schools at the start of 2009.
Orchestrated by Nick Rough, he approached me one morning, asking me to make a video, which can be played in high schools.
I gave it my best shot;…. combined with Jay Cook and the ICR band we ploughed our way through 4 months of high schools- piecing together different elements to the show as went.
The response we were receiving throughout the schools was very encouraging, and fortunately our bosses saw the potential to take the ICR to the next level.

X Factor.....

Is the X Factor a talent competition or a personality competition that is the question……?

I don't know if you've been watching the show but I've been watching it over the last month and most of the best singers have been voted off the show! (apart from Jedward)
What is that about!
How did Rachel Adedeji, and Lucy Benjamin end up being voted off the show?

Though the 'Jedward' boys are lovely……Justice was finally done this weekend when they got voted off the show. And I'm sure they have a great career ahead of them.

Stay safe!

When you watch the news you could be forgiven for thinking that we live in a war zone. The truth is London is a very safe place but I thought I'd provide a few tips to help us all live safely in this wonderful city!

Out and about
• Try to avoid walking alone at night, and try to keep to well-lit main roads. Stay in a group of friends as much as possible.
• Be aware of what’s going on around you. If something is going to happen you can usually see it coming a mile off if you are alert.
• Try to avoid wearing headphones or wear one. You will be more aware of what's going on around you

Long Tiing!!

I travel a lot on the tubes and buses, why? because I have to, and we have a great transport system here in london. Yeah the system has it's moments, and we do sometimes moan. It can be a bit much with all it's engineering works and midnight closures, which some people can refer to as a "Long Ting"(annoying, frustrating, time consuming,or just plain and boring) but overall it is great. Wait until you go into other countries and see what they have to deal with for public transport.

These Streets Were Made For Walking....

It’s quite sobering to think that while I go to sleep every night in my warm bed there are approximately 3000 people a year in London who will be sleeping on the very streets I walk along.
We don’t really need to go looking for the need, as we are confronted with it everyday. I guess the thing that keeps going over in my head is....’what am I doing about it?’
Do I keep my head down and try to avoid the painstaking eye contact as I walk past, hoping that they wont ask me for anything?

Nintendo Vs. Michael Jackson

Just thought I would share with ya'll what I am excited about right now.

Sadly the King of Pop, MJ, has passed away (no this is not what I am excited about), but this has given way to a whole new wave of his music. You can't switch on the radio, TV or even walk down the street without hearing Heal The World or Smooth Criminal. And hey don't get me wrong: I love those tunes as much as the next person, I am just worried that people will get tiered of it all and we will loose MJ's music from the mainstream for a while. Solution? Well I think to keep the spark alive a good cover/remix helps once in a while. And I don't mean that someone just puts a pounding bass drum under the Earth Song; I mean something inspired, to bring that spark back and realize how these songs really just wanna make you dance.

Well… My passions have been combined! Through an artist called Saitone from Japan.

East London Gangs

When you come face to face with the community behind a news report it all becomes so real so quickly. This is the case with a link to a BBC program site I was sent the other day. There is a 17yr old documentary film maker who produced a series of films using his own footage, photographs and music, to depict day to day life repping his endz in Newham - East London. The films were titled – “An eye 4 an eye”
