Just thought I would share with ya'll what I am excited about right now.
Sadly the King of Pop, MJ, has passed away (no this is not what I am excited about), but this has given way to a whole new wave of his music. You can't switch on the radio, TV or even walk down the street without hearing Heal The World or Smooth Criminal. And hey don't get me wrong: I love those tunes as much as the next person, I am just worried that people will get tiered of it all and we will loose MJ's music from the mainstream for a while. Solution? Well I think to keep the spark alive a good cover/remix helps once in a while. And I don't mean that someone just puts a pounding bass drum under the Earth Song; I mean something inspired, to bring that spark back and realize how these songs really just wanna make you dance.
Well… My passions have been combined! Through an artist called Saitone from Japan.
Saitone is pretty much the biggest artist in the musical genre of Chiptune or 8bit. According to wikipedia: "8-bit refers to a style of electronic music inspired (and performed) by the sound of old computer consoles from the 8 bit era of video games. This music will often reflect sounds from technology that is seen as primitive or "outdated" such as the Game Boy and home made synthesizers." (FREAKING LOVE WIKI). In other words the sounds of my early childhood brought back to life to bite music in the ass. Saitone has just released a cover of Thriller and a cover of Smooth Criminal and they are both awesome. I have posted a youtube vid to spark your imagination.
If you aint digging that, check out Random, aka Mega Ran, Big Ran or Random Beats. Half-teacher, half musician, all hustle. His track Splash Woman mixes Hip-Hop and 8bit in the HOTTEST way… Was just suggesting on twitter the other day that I wanna start an 8bit meets The Neptunes style band; HOW SICK WOULD THAT BE!
This is just what has me excited right now.
LONG LIVE THE REVOLUTION

P.S: People don’t really explore MJ’s back catalogue either: check out Sunset Driver (a demo) and Who Is It (great groove), plus for some of that swaying action check out The Way You Love Me for some extra inspiration.
