It’s quite sobering to think that while I go to sleep every night in my warm bed there are approximately 3000 people a year in London who will be sleeping on the very streets I walk along.
We don’t really need to go looking for the need, as we are confronted with it everyday. I guess the thing that keeps going over in my head is....’what am I doing about it?’
Do I keep my head down and try to avoid the painstaking eye contact as I walk past, hoping that they wont ask me for anything?
I once heard someone say that your average person only needs a run of 6 bad weeks before they could potentially end up on the streets, that’s not a long time at all.
So I’ll ask the question again, What Am I Doing About This?
I think sometimes we forget that these are real people living very real lives. They haven’t chosen this lifestyle, they may find it difficult to climb out of their circumstance, but they definitely haven’t chosen to live this way. That’s why we need to help pull them up and out.
There are so many ways to get involved and really start making a difference in this area of need, but one of the great charities I want to highlight is ‘CRISIS’ (www.crisis.org.uk)
Crisis have 2 main purposes
1| Transforming the lives of homeless people
2| Preventing people becoming homeless
Why not get your whole school involved, check this link for heaps of ideas-

Very true Jay, and it's happening all over the world. Millions of people sleeping on te cold streets at night - with no money and no where to stay. And then, during the day, millions of people walk by - barely even noticing him/her and giving him/her nothing. Something needs to be done - some one needs to help them. That is why we are here as a church - to come along side these people - helping them get back in to society - maybe even a job. That's what a Church should do - care for people.
